BRAUNSTON CUBS GO ON AN ADVENTURE DAY!
On Saturday 22nd June 11 Cubs form 2nd Braunston Cub pack were part of nearly 100 District Cubs at Willen Lakes just Outside Milton Keynes for a fun filled day.
Chief Scout Bear Grylls regularly reminds us that Scouting is all about “having adventures” and one of the 7 Challenge badges Cubs is called *Our Adventure* which is all about doing outdoor activities, hiking and at least 2 ‘adventurous activities’.
The weather on the day was perfect. Warm, Sunny with a few clouds and a refreshing breeze. All The Cubs did 2 water sports picked from: Sailing, Stand-up paddle boarding, Canoeing, Raft
Building or Katakanu (2 connected Canoes) AND An exhilarating high ropes course.
The Cubs had a fantastic time. Cub Leader David Coleman was especially impressed how every Cub got stuck in and had a go even when they thought they could not do it – Turns out many were great at Stand up Paddle boarding and he has video of 3 Cubs whizzing along in a sailing boat within 10 minutes despite never having sailed before. The weather was great for water sports and it was clear that many Cubs were deliberately “falling in/capsizing’ just for the fun of it on a warm day. We all have some natural fear of heights that the presence of safety ropes and instructors does little to calm BUT all the Cubs completed a high ropes course including the ‘leap of faith’ and several even did the ‘Long drop to earth’ at the end of the circuit.
